About Me

This is a tribute to one of the most talented & greatest bands Australia has ever seen. Astonishingly, The Twilights never achieved the international fame they so deserved, however, were hugely successful in Australia in the 1960's. From Adelaide, South Australia, they had an adoring & faithful fan base here in Adelaide while appearing regularly each week at the Oxford Club to a packed house, which soon expanded once they were discovered over the border . Not only did The Twilights perform the great songs by leading 60's bands like The Beatles, Traffic, The Move, The Hollies, The Small Faces etc. but their songwriting talents lead to recording some original songs & winning The 1966 National Hoadleys Battle of the Sounds against stiff competition, which scored them a trip to the mecca of 60's music, England. They had a week at the famous Cavern Club in Liverpool & recorded at Abbey Road Studios, where they were observed by The Beatles , who were reportedly most impressed, unaware of the band's status back in Australia. The Hollies were another top English band to be blown away by them & when they heard "the way they played", which they wrote for the Twilights, they quickly followed up with their own version. The Twilights returned home in 1967 with new material & in 1968 they really hit their peak. Sadly, their last stunning performance was at Berties Disco in Melbourne in 1969, leaving their dedicated fans in a state of shock, with Australia losing such a band that we have not seen since. A few band members have continued to work successfuly internationaly within the industry, while a few have chosen work in other fields & live here in Adelaide. However, we still have their superbly crafted music that should be played far more than it is. I do hope you agree.
