We love you, Bob Pollard.***
It’s been a few months (9-ish) since Ionesco has started playing shows out and about Seattle, and we’ve been fortunate enough to play in some excellent venues to audiences of (sometimes) more than two people; we’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has come out to see us, whether it be to clap or hiss, and we feel privileged to’ve had the opportunity to entertain you. We appreciate the love and send it back five-fold. And after about a dozen shows under our belts, it appears as though the line-up is finally almost just about quasi-solidified.***
When he’s not squeezing caramel sauce into the bottom of paper cups and gently foaming skim milk, Jeff "Speedy Fingers" Lund plays keyboards like a man foaming at the mouth. Although trained as a jazz pianist, Jeff has suitably lowered his standards and skills enough to play in Ionesco, and he gives the songs a panache and verve they would sorely lack without his massive prowess.***
Mr. Tom Matz, mild-mannered and humble, gracious and noble, turns into Charles Manson when he has a bass guitar in his hands. Tom is a veteran of the Seattle music scene, has played with (and fronted) a number of bands (both as lead singer and primary writer), and brings a wealth of wisdom and experience to the greenish Ionesco fold. When he’s not busy composing bass lines that would make even Bruce Thomas furrow his brow in consternation, he can be found running computer systems at Sound Mental Health (which is where he first ran into Dave).***
After some silly drummerly shenanigans, Mr. Doug McGrew has taken up permanent residence behind the drum kit (with a cameo appearance from Sean Mefferd every now and again). Doug has been playing drums longer than he’s been alive, and his playing is the anchor that keeps Ionesco from bogus floatation. Or something like that. Doug can play drums in just about any style, and the jazz chops of both Mr. McGrew and Mr. Lund promise to push the band into different realms and challenge the crappy rhythm guitar playing of the singer.***
Thanks so much for reading and listening and supporting!!***
The future is in eggs.
