About Me

Mixed Martial Arts, and the Styles that I have studied.
Martial arts is the art of fighting or combat. Martial Arts uses science and theory to systematize hand to hand mortal combat. Martial arts really became systemized in China. The Shaolin Temple and the Shaolin monks created styles and systems based on animals and insects to reflect the martial arts. They include Monkey, Tiger, Crane, Praying Mantis, and Dragon. The more popular arts of Asia include: Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido, Hwa Rang Do, Tang Soo Do, Jui-Jitsu, Judo, Aikido, Wing Chun Kung Fu, Choy Lay Foot, Wushu, Tai Chi, the varied Shaolin Animal Styles and Filipino Kali.Today, Tae Kwon Do has become an Olympic Event, making Martial Arts more popular than ever. The advent of Mixed Martial Arts fighting and the UFC has seen martial arts build up more fan base. The mixed martial arts community stresses pure combat skills and street fighting techniques based on what works. In traditional martial arts, the arts was emphasized as strongly as the fighting aspect of the art.The ultimate endeavor of any martial artist is the developmenet of the mind and the body, to work harmoniously together. Through this discipline, physical, mental and spiritual growth is sought.
Lua is much more than a martial art. It is a Hawaiian cultural legacy. One famous Lua practitioner was King Kamehameha, who united all the Hawaiian islands by 1810. Philosophy: Lua is a system of fighting based on the theory of duality. Lua warriors would combine the traits of Ku, the god of war, and Hina, the goddess of the moon. Lua seeks to balance good and evil, male and female, destruction and healing, dark and light. Characteristics: Lua's combat system consists of kuikui (punching),peku (kicking),hakihaki (bone-breaking), hakoko (wrestling) and aalolo (pressure point attacks). However in keeping with the focus on duality, there is also a focus on healing. Lua practitioners historically trained in lomi lomi massage, as well as other natural methods of healing.
JEET-KUNE-DO: Bruce Lee's Martial arts style. A fusion of kick boxing, Wing Chun, Filipino fighting and Kenpo. The art emphasis fluidity, flexibility and constant learning and changing.
Muay Thai also known as Thai Boxing or The Art of the Eight Limbs is a form of hard martial art practiced in several Southeast Asian countries including Thailand. Thai military uses a modified form of Muay Thai called Lerdrit
Tai Chi ChuanOne of the three orthodox "internal" styles of Chinese martial art (the other two being Hsing Yi Ch'uan and Pa Kua Chang). The term "T'ai Chi" refers to the ancient Chinese cosmological concept of the interplay between two opposite yet complementary forces (Yin and Yang) as being the foundation of creation. "Ch'uan" literaly means "fist" and denotes an unarmed method of combat. T'ai Chi Ch'uan as a martial art is based on the principle of the soft overcoming the hard.
Lua practitioner "The warrior King" King Kamehameha I, who united all the Hawaiian islands.
