About Me

user: giancarlo. aka gian // gene // G
your neighborhood Guardian & Martyr of the Blind.
note. my interest listings are monopolizing the left side of this page.
life's extracurricular activities. it was what it was karate for 8 years, soccer and basketball sporadically but passionately, wrestling in high school. intermittent athletics come and go in my life like the ebb and flow of long term interests.
film. every aspect of it. the history, the digital medium, the production and post process, the visual, the drama, the action, the wit, the hype, the translation from vision to silver screen, the commentary, the hollywood, the immortality.
if it's still over your head, i'm an aspiring filmmaker. that orgasmic specimen of a camera gracing this space's background should've been the smoking gun; beauty in digital prosumer form.
guitar. yes, i don't just talk about it, i actually play it. since 2001. efforts lie in technically and melodically shredding your ears until you biologically devolve into a shell of your former self.
obsessed with melody, catchy progressions, math-metal and overall tech. put that into a mixer and maybe that's a band i'll be helming someday. side project of course, phil anselmo-style.
math metal explication if you were thrown aback from this flurry of guitar terminology, fear not. i can make you understand. read below, along the lines and in-between the beats.
-- for one, i believe i am a surefire, complete and avid proponent to the math-metal genre, which breaches into other genres, sub & major, as you might find when scouring bands in this realm of things.
"math-metal" sounds quite silly. yes, you wouldn't be the first, so shut up and listen. the style is absolutely beyond most people's ears [or attention span for that matter]. let me explain my dear Watson...
it's shortened from mathematical metal, which can be labeled as a sub-genre to progressive metal. 'math metal' could be an easy substitute for 'tech-metal' too! Since both math and tech metal share similar principles in song structure [time signature progressions and tempo transitions].
note. this idea? it wasn't born yesterday: classical composers [mozart, dvorak, beethoven, tchaikovsky] used every iota of those principles.
math-metal sounds even more unique when the user goes balls to the wall with this boundless style. throw the core ideas into a blender, toss in some jazz, hxC, inhales, and riffs that barely make it to the next bar and you have yourself organized chaos. most will malign it, but should you fit the minority, the mystique of it all will have you browsing the nearest torrent site bearing the band's work. your craving shalln't stem.
"math"-pattern example: a progression pattern incorporating a numerical reverse build-up [4,3,2,1]. so a single bar would read 4/4 [4 notes in the standard bar of 4 note beats]. imagine tapping your foot 4 times at any tempo; congrats: you just created a full bar signature that most all popular music abides by.
let's sex things up a bit. after one 4-note progression, make the next consist of 3 beats, then the following 2, then 1, then repeat. 4/4, 3/4, 2/4, 1/4.
sounds odd to the untrained. but to the rest it's pure sweetness without the aspertame.
a majority of music tastes do not categorize this genre close to mainstream... it's generally not enticing or user-friendly. it doesn't keep a 'consistent beat'. well i'll tell you one thing that it's consistent with: the combo possibilities. in just that lesson i gave you, you can formulate 16 different progressions. that's 16 original-esque melodies that you can take to the bank. and i'll be taking 25% of the dividends.
a good student will check out mudvayne. i don't care if you dislike make-up or clowns or the loud 'nu-metal'. i love them.
just a note. mainstream and popular music inherently utilize normal timing patterns: 2/4, 4/4, 6/4, 12/8. and so on. it's perfect for radio and the familiarity with bobbing your head 2 to 4 times to get a full rhythm absorbed into your head. it's good for the casual music-goer.
but casual? fuck being casual with music. shit. that's like being casual with food. i want quality entering my body and exiting my asshole. the same thing with music. your start preaching bullshit, we're gonna know you were listening to it from the getgo.

drinking and smoking are unfortunate vices in my life, but I can live with alcohol forever.

my music interests span a wide spectrum of greatness, from billboard-caliber popular music to a mix showtunes to female j-pop rock. i'd like to think my musical tolerance is as deep as it is accessible.but metal... it's my bread & butter.

SUPERBOWL XLII CHAMPIONS

eli manning, you annihilated the opposition with actions speaking louder than words. it was utterly spectacular. tiki who? that overpaid newscaster? who's tom brady? oh, that guy with the coach belicheat? the guys with the spycams on offensive huddles? man, whoever does that deserves something of a goose egg... and that's exactly what the patriots got on february 3rd, 2008. nothing but an exit path to slither away from the arizona crowd ready to embrace a new manning champion.
