NBC's "The Contender"____________ Tarick was born and raised in Detroit and began boxing at the age of 8. He grew up boxing at the famed Kronk gym in Detroit, where he compiled a phenomenal amateur record consisting of 136 wins and 12 defeats. As an amateur, Tarick was a 6 time Mi state champion, 4 time Midwest champion, and 3 time U.S. National champion. He was also an Olympic Trials finalist. Turning pro at the age of 20, his career was guided by world renowned manager Jackie Kallen and later by hall of fame manager and trainer Emanuel Steward. As a professional, Tarick compiled a record of 20 wins and 2 defeats. He won the WBO's NABO(North American Boxing Organization) Super Middleweight Championship and was rated #4 in the world by the W.B.O. and #6 by the W.B.C. He was chosen as one of sixteen fighters worldwide to participate on NBC's "The Contender"(Season One). Tarick has also earned a Bachelors degree from the University of Michigan.
