In November 2005, Tysha Michelle formed an African-American book club consisting of women with various back grounds, interest, and responsibilities. The ladies meet on the second Saturday of every month to discuss books, escape from the demands of their lives and simply have fun. The group has recently begun reviewing novels by African-American writers and networking with other book clubs in the world of myspace.com. Shades of EveryDay Women Book-Club operate by the following guidelines:*First and most important – EACH GROUP MEMBER WILL HAVE FUN, RELAX AND BE HERSELF!
*What happens at the book-club meetings STAYS at the meetings
*Each member’s opinion is hers and will not be taken as anything other than that - - her opinion
*Any and ALL decisions about the group will be made by the group
*Hostess of the month will pick and announce her reading choice at the meeting prior to the month she has volunteered to host (ex: host in Feb., announce at Jan. meeting)
*Hostess responsible for providing driving directions to her home
*No meeting cancellations - - Each Hostess will have a back-up hostess (or what will be called a Plan B). If an emergency requires the back-up hostess to cover the meeting, she and I will contact each member by phone no later than 2p.m. on meeting day. If necessary, I will provide the emergency meeting place.
*Each member responsible for bringing a covered dish to each meeting (unless hostess states otherwise)
*Each member responsible for paying monthly $5 book-club fee
*Penalty for not reading a book is $2.00
*All club fees and penalties will be kept in our EveryDay Women Book-Club checking account. No withdrawals or spending of collected funds without a group discussion and/or vote.
*Any book-club field trips (outings) will be voted on by the group (majority rules)
*Each member responsible for keeping their contact information current
*Birthdays of the month will be recognized by a cake and card during our monthly meetings
