FCMC Radio was created and developed by our own Reslez Steeplechase, utilizing one of our StreamTeam audio streams to raise awareness of live music in Second Life by showcasing SL’s performing artists. It is a 24/7 internet radio stream aired in venues, SIM's and private residences across the SL Grid. It can also be heard worldwide by anyone with a computer and a media player such as Winamp, RealPlayer or Windows Media Player. It is an outlet for ALL artist’s to promote their musical talent, gain exposure and familiarity in SL without any bias toward genre or structural affiliation.
SETTING UP FOR WEBCASTING
1) First you need some source material! That is your live music act, be it solo performer, band, mp3’s (for DJ’s) or whatever.
2) Next you will need an encoder. We suggest SHOUTcast . This is a free download and a good piece of software that is widely used. There are other software applications if you prefer to use one of those. All will run on your computer; so that you can "feed" your performance to the internet. Anything from a Pentium II, 300mHz computer on up should be sufficient for encoding purposes. Be aware that there is normally 15-30 second delay between what you play and what your audience hears.
3) Now you need to feed your stream to a server that your audience can connect to. If you have a massive amount of bandwidth at your disposal, then you can run the stream server software on the same machine that you are encoding from. However, most people do not have such a huge pipeline to the internet and find it simpler to lease audio bandwidth from a professional company. We respectfully suggest that you lease your stream from us here at The Stream Team.
4) You will also need upload bandwidth! Generally a standard ADSL or Cable connection will offer sufficient bandwidth for a 128kbps audio feed. If your stream has dropouts or glitches, lowering it to 96kbps or even 64kbps will usually cure the problem. Anything lower will sound muffled and will detract from your sound quality.
5) Simple as 1-2-3! If you lease a Stream Team stream, and have any issues getting up and running, we can walk you through your set up! Now you can use the internet and Second Life as another avenue to get your music to your audience.
