David Drake was born on October 31st, 1981 in Grosse Point, MI. The son of a Detroit radio DJ and a dancer, grandson to a painter and naturalist, and brother to a screenwriter, David was immersed in artistic cultivation from an early age. From this rich background in nonconforming stimulation, he took an interest in piano at the age of twelve, honing his classical tastes while gaining an appreciation in rock music from his father’s influence. David began teaching himself to play the guitar at the age of 18. That was also the same year his grandfather passed away. The loss affected him profoundly and inspired him to write and perform his first song at his memorial service. From such darkness, David began creating beautiful music with somewhat haunting undertones and spiritual themes. His admiration of nature and desire for humanity’s salvation has permeated his overall message of love, peace, and the ascendance of the soul to create an evolved vision of rock, folk, and poetry. Resonating messages echoed in music created by The Beatles, Bright Eyes, Iron & Wine, Will Oldham, and Radiohead, David Drake is creating music for the world willing to listen, awaken, and ascend to a higher level of consciousness.
