Coming up as the second to youngest of “FOUR BROTHERS†(We should get paid for these advertising plugs)… Drew G a.k.a. SLy b.k.a. SolomOn began his life in the city of Hartford, CT in the hazy, humid, July heat. He was taken from Mt. Sinai hospital to his new home on Lennox street, off of Albany Ave. deep in the North End of the Heartbeat. As a wee babe ready to begin his long climb up the ladder of success, Solomon was a phenomenal learner spittin at a mere 3 minutes old, earning his first cuff in the head from Pops which later translated to a stubborn toughness that would allow him to carry on in the face of adversity.
As a 1st generation product of a hardworking Jamaican family (J.A. STAND UP) Solomon was transported to Wilson CT at a young age, because of the nature of the neighborhood where he was being raised. His father, wanting to give his family a better environment moved them into a small community called Wilson which was located about 5 minutes from the city. Oddly enough despite his fathers best intentions Solomon continued attending pre-school and elementary school in the heart of Hartford. This is where he developed the determination and drive seen in so many of our inner city youths today (AKA this is where he learned about HUNGER ). As a child Solomon constantly found himself at the center of conflict and strife, facing his first suspension in 3rd grade after a classroom brawl involving a teacher and another student. His stubborn pride and ability to outwit peers gained him a love-hate relationship with many who came in contact with him during this period of his life.
As Solomon grew older he began to witness his parents struggle for security in a land ruled by the wealthy. His Dad owned a small family owned business (Gordon’s Floor Covering, which is still in business today) and struggled to maintain an acceptable standard of living by working long hours and teaching his sons the art of going without. Solomon was first drawn to Hip hop as an art form in 1998 with the release of “Hard Knock Lifeâ€. He claims to remember the first time he heard the "Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)" in the parking lot of a run down Stop & Shop, and remembers feeling as if the story was written to loosely reflect his family struggles. Solomon ascribes this as the event that inspired him to pick up a pen and chronicle his own journey through life.
Solomon, tired of hearing stories of rappers being angry, broke, and screwed over by record labels decided that the most important thing to do was have a steady income coupled with a sound understanding of the business principles that drive the industry . This drove him to leave his community and the influences that might distract him from his goal, and attend school in Texas. After having a daughter, several run-ins with the law, and gaining a degree in Business Administration with a focus in Marketing, Solomon began his career and had his steady flow of income.
With this being achieved it was now time to pursue his true passion. Music . Solomon, and several friends came together to form the budding label 3Wise Entertainment: Myspace.com/3wise . With a label on the rise and full of talent, and an arsenal of lyrical madness at his fingertips Sly Solomon is intent on carving a path in this once (proclaimed) dead Hip Hop industry… So Stay Tuned, and have your hatin comments in hand…Header Banner Made with MyBannerMaker.com!
