15 year old Ala is the new face of the Polish music stage.
Her debut album has just come out.
Although she is very young, she’s already experienced in show business. At age 12 she was part of a band which she left after three years to start her solo career. Ala used to take piano and flute lessons in music school. From her earliest years, she was open to very different kinds of music."I don’t want to be like other bands. I’d like to be original and bring something new to the music scene, to give the music my own touch. Of course I’m inspired by others, especially those who stand out with a unique style, even when they’re controversial sometimes. I love artists who steer toward something new. Artists such as: CSS, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, New Young Pony Club, Metric, Kings of Leon, Bloc Party, and the Klaxons. I have a lot of respect for rock veterans like: : RHCP, Radiohead and Beck."„Higher” is Ala’s solo debut album. She recorded it with Jacek „Perkoz” Perkowski who is the former guitar player of T.Love."I wanted my album to be the best example of the fact that it’s not necessary to limit yourself because of others. The first song I wrote for the album was “Angel”. It’s about listening to yourself and that we are Guardian Angels for ourselves. Only we know what’s best for us and what we really want. „Higher” is definitely a rock album however, it has electronic elements and even some of ska and reggae. I decided to do something that was “revolutionary” for me and write a reggae piece called “Higher”. The lyrics are about things I feel lately: I know I did something that’s mine, something that I feel came naturally and freely. There’s nothing on that record that I am ashamed of."In her everyday life Ala combines 2 difficult roles: that of a student and a vocalist. "It’s difficult but not impossible. Some young people have hobbies, some spend their time on sports and some go on tour… I don’t want to submit. I want to try, touch and experience everything by myself. I’m not interested in following “the herd”. The song “don’t believe them” is about that."All the lyrics on „Higher” are in English. Ala wrote most of them. "My music is for young people and most of them speak or learn English and it’s not a limitation for them. My favourite songs are in English so English is the language of music for me, even though I’m Polish."„Higher” came out November 12 of 2007 by QL Music label
