About Me

I’ll tell you a very improbable story. A young musician sitting at her desk trying to write her own biography and sound incredibly professional at it.
If that story were mine, what would my masterpiece begin with? “Emily started her music career at the early age of six…” Well, by playing a recorder – I’d think to myself – but I guess it counts! So on we go: “…music continued to play a big part in Emily’s life, at times playing up to four instruments, taking vocal lessons, and participating in popular music studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg.”
Naah, let’s cut this! – I’d think at last – Is there any use in creating one of a million myspace band profiles, yet trying to make me seem exceptional? If, in this story, I finally found words to describe my relationship to music, I’m sure many would recognize themselves in it. “Intensively linking me to emotions, good and bad ones. Recalling memories long gone in a second. Simply loving it to make music myself. Making me forget everything around me when playing the piano” – this would probably be the part where, if I were writing this, I’d have to think of Dwele singing “like a child at play…” And next I’d think we should rather listen to music than write about it.
So what could that professional sounding portfolio end with? Probably with a dessert of attributes. “Emily’s songs sound melancholic and longing, but warm and hopeful nevertheless” NOW she engaged a cheesy consultant after all, the reader thinks at this point! Yuk... So let’s rather make the critics have the last word. “Promising.” Phew. I’ll give my best! “Simply nice to listen to.” I hope so! :)
