Add to My Profile | More VideosDaphne Kotsiani, was born in Thessaloniki,Greece.She studied piano with Lola Totsiou at the Contemporary Concervatory of Thessaloniki and later at the Music College,from which she has obtained the Piano Diploma by the note "Excellent Unanimously" and the of Distinction of Excellent Interpretation.In parallel way she effected studies of Higher Theoretical Courses and she is possesor of Harmony and Counterpoint diplomas.
She participated actively in seminaries of piano master-class in Greece and abroad with many distinct soloists and music educators, among them, Domna Evnouhidou, Martino Tirimo, Boris Berezowsky, Nelly Ben-Or, Jurgen Schroeder, Ruth Gerald, Lilly Boyadjieva e.t.c.She has been accepted by the Trinity College of Music of London to join the Post-Graduate and Master-Class corses.She gave concerts in Greece with chamber music ensembles and solo performances.Her repertoire includes European and American contemporary music composers such as Bela Bartok, Alfred Schnittke, Anton Webern, Francis Poulenc, Samuel Barber,Aaron Copland,Donald Martino, Leon Kirchner, e.t.c.
She has worked as radio producer in the field of classical music at the "Paratiritis"(Observer) Radio Station of Thessaloniki.Since 2001 she teaches piano at Municipal Concervatories of Kalamaria, Sykies and Ag.Pavlos.The last years her interest is centralized on experimental and impovisatory music, collaborating and recording with contemporary-classical and experimental music groups.(TERRA INCOGNITA Ensemble,peR-CUSSION Duo,Due Corde). For several years she was essential member of the musical-educational laboratory "Kroustophono", on the frames of which are in function section of musical-kinetic education for children and music educators, seminaries of percussion instruments as well as parformances effected on festivals and cultural organizations all over Greece.
She has cooperated with the modern dance group "Dancers of the North" for which she composed and recorded pieces for piano solo,performing at the "BIENALLE OF YOUNG CREATORS 2003",Dance Month-Athens 2003)
From 2005-2007,she has been a member of the Ancient Greek Music Ensemble "Daemonia Nymphe",which using exact copies of Ancient Hellinic Instruments and Poetry,create and experiment on personal forms.The Ensemble has released 5 cds and has given many concerts in Greece and Europe obtaining very warm comments.
Daphne Kotsiani has cooperated with composer Kostas Vomvolos and the Northern Greece National Theater undertaking, periodically, the musical direction of his music for the following theartical plays:The "Deers and the Curses" by Mustafa Mungan (2004) and "Bacche" by Evripides (2007).She has written two theatrical plays for children:"Dolls"(1997) ,which was performed at the old German School Hall under the auspices of the Organization Thessaloniki 1997 Cultural Capital of Europe and "Fairytale in ...A mag.!" (2001),which was arranged and recorded for the Municipal Radio of Thessaloniki.The play was directed by D.K and was performed in 2002.
During the period 1997-2003, she used to be an active member of the artistic studio "POLYTECHNO"(parallel activity of dance,theater and plastic arts by essential axle the music)performing in many projects.She has graduated from "Parathlasi"Drama School,participating in city's various theatrical groups .She has also participated in the theatrical seminar of Michael Marmarinos with the subject"Micro-Acting-Body inhibitions and Bio-Energy Cry-Dance,an old structure with new possibilities".Since 2006 she attends the Body-Contact Improvisation courses with Kostas Gerardos modern dance group.
