WHO THE....IS MISS KO?
At a stature of just over five-feet, this charismatic artist/lyricist bred out of Queens, New York really packs a paralyzing punch. KO, which is her official last name, also stands for Knock Out. And what a K.O. she is. Born of mainly Taiwanese decent, this exotic wordsmith has been "hip-hopping" since the days of Slick Rick and Rakim.
Back when Miss KO was still in elementary school, she fell in love with music and its ability to move people. Born to immigrant parents, as a youngster, she constantly watched her parents struggle to make ends meet and was never able to afford any CDs or go to any concerts. So one day, she decided to create her own. Armed with a tape recorder her neighbor didn't want and fueled by a passion to be just like her idols, she would record the radio and listen to it over and over again, until like Biggie once said, "I let my tape rock, 'til my tape popped."
Although Miss KO didn't start writing her own music until early high school, she grew up listening to some of the greatest musical and social influences of all time. Artists such as Tupac, Lauryn Hill, Mary J. Blige, Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye are all largely responsible for shaping her into the passionate and focused individual she is today. "I was so misguided growing up, and followed others rather than myself." "But everyone needs to go through the bad in order to realize what's good." "For me, music is my mentor that helped steer me in the right direction and gave me something better to live for."
Miss KO has come a long way from being that teenage delinquent to recently graduating as Valedictorian of her college class, proving that you can indeed do anything you put your mind to. "I grew up lost and struggling to find my purpose, but with music I have found my soul, my path, and my destiny." "When I turn music on, I feel invincible like I can do absolutely anything, and I only hope to evoke those same feelings of confidence and positivity in someone else with my music."
With that being said, her plans to spread powerful messages through her music and words are everlasting. "People along with their ideas live on through their words. With music my influence is immortal. If you're reading this right now, then I have somehow touched your life, and you will somehow touch another life, and so on. My impact is forever..."
Now with so much passion within her words, you can't help but be inspired yourself. As the world turns and the radio plays, you should definitely keep your eyes and ears open for this lyrical knock-out (pun intended).
"I may be up and coming, but by the time this industry recognizes me, K and O will be the two most popular letters of the alphabet, and Miss will be associated with one of the greatest of all time. Power to all my women. Stand up, we're here!"
PEACE, LOVE, SOUL!
