To say SIMP's refreshing style and heartfelt lyrics capture the original essence of hip hop would be an understatement. Although the word "simp" is usually used as slang to describe a simple minded or foolish person, the lyrical prowess of this emcee proves that he is anything but. "Some people called me 'simple' as a child so I ran with it," SIMP said. The suburban raised college graduate is using his innovative style, charismatic wit and blunt delivery to claim his place in hip hop. His debut It's that SIMPle includes songs like "All My Life," his tribute to his parents and old school flavored tracks like "Yesterday." SIMP cites his upbringing in the D.C. Metropolitan area, best known for go-go, for the influence of artists like Northeast Groovers and Backyard Band. His favorite emcees include Nas and Lupe Fiasco. "I began spinning records for local parties when I was 14 years old," he said. "So I had to listen to everything and I developed a broad taste in music." When asked about the current status of hip hop SIMP said, "The music is not the same anymore. You got a bunch of people coming in just to make money and it's destroying the integrity of the music. Nobody is genuine anymore and image is controlling the radio." He believes hip hop is being plagued by "One Hitter Quitters," or one hit wonders, a fate he plans to avoid. The depth of his lyrics and his unique sound are sure to provide him with a longevity few artists currently in the industry can hope to achieve. His strong will and determination resonate through his music and with beats from up and coming producers such as the Band G.E.E.X., BeatStudies and Mark Jackson of Magic Trax Productions; SIMP has created a sound that is wholly unique yet true to the foundation of hip hop music. real editor best profile tools real editor best profile tools
