I am here for Friends

About Me

Out-going chatterbox with an insatiable curiosity and a great love of music, movies, literature, art, and all things beautiful.

My Interests

Writing, reading, music, watching movies, going to concerts/shows, baking, having fun doing silly stuff, singing, spending time with my family, friends, and loved ones, keeping up-to-date on my favorite artists, chatting online, and making new friends.

I'd like to meet:

Fun and interesting people from all over the world who could become friends.

Music:

Mostly old R&B, Soul, and Gospel music are my favorites, but I also love jazz and classical music. I love old-school hip-hop and some Spanish-language music like ranchera, mariachi, and musica tropical. At the moment I'm learning to appreciate country and Tejano music as well. Pop is a necessary evil, but I can handle it if it's low on bubble-gum content. Basically, if it's good and I feel it, then I like it.

Movies:

Mostly comedy and drama, but I also love action movies, and in particular cop movies, psychological thrillers, and such. Science-fiction is also very fun. I like to think outside the box. Horror movies are growing on me, though I'm still not brave enough to challenge some of the classics. Romance is better in novels or in real-life, so movies that are specifically romantic are actually kind of boring to me. I'd rather be held in suspense, or scared out of my wits, or even have my brain twisted with trying to figure a mystery out than be fed false scenarios with lame lines and trite illusions of love. Do I sound cynical? I'm not. I'm just honest.

Television:

I didn't used to watch a lot of TV, but now I have become slightly addicted to all three of the "CSI:" shows. I just love cop shows in general. "Cold Case", "Without A Trace", "NCIS", "Num3rs", and "Mindhunters" are also on my list. I don't watch anything else. I guess you can say I'm a fan of CBS all together. I stopped watching "American Idol" because I got frustrated with the whole tired concept. I don't particularly like sitcoms unless I'm really bored and have nothing else better to do, but then again, I don't let myself get bored. I'll just read a book.

Books:

I love to read, and I will read any book as long as it's interesting and engages my imagination. I mostly read fiction, but real-life is sometimes even more fascinating, so I also read autobigraphies and true-crime. I like cookbooks and how-to books, too. Magazines, journals, and the newspaper, also. I feel like a broken record, repeating this over and over again, but it's true: I will literally read anything and everything within my reach.

Heroes:

Michael Jackson. Need I say more? The man has been through hell and still he rises. He has been, is, and always will be a hero to me for all he's done and continues to do. I learn so much from him, through his music, his writing, the ideas he has about life and how we can live it, and his hope and vision for the future. No other artist has influenced me so much, not only in the actual technical and also spiritual aspect of music, but as a human being, like how to be a better person. Michael has empowered and inspired me to fulfill all my God-given potential through my gifts and talents.

One-week Anniversary

One week ago today my family and I lost our beloved pet, my mother's young Chihuahua dog, Boy.  She had had him for over a year and he was a good dog, but he was killed.  The biggest shock i...

We'll just see what we'll see...

With a little more than a little bit of encouragement from a good friend of mine (you know who you are!), I've decided to invite Taryll Jackson as a friend on MySpace.  I'm a little nervous becau...

I knew I could do it!

As you can see, I finally figured out how to add photos on here.  I love those of Alex and Valerie, my pretty babies!  Did I mention they're not even in the country right now?  I know, ...

Do you know what today is?

Today is the anniversary of Brandon Lee's birthday.  He would have been 41 years old today, if he had lived past his 28 years, the age he was when he died.  Can you believe it's been so long...

Damn.  It's hard to find time to do anything when you have nothing to do.  It's not been the easiest or best weeks in my life since I wrote last, but I can't complain, because it can always ...

It can't rain all the time...

I woke up so late this morning, it's not even funny.  It was about 11:30am when I finally got up out of bed.  I can't believe I slept so long!  Even though I went to sleep kinda late, a...

Thank God it's Friday!  I need a break.  As if I've been doing so much, though, right?  I know, I know.  I've been a bum, but at least during the weekend I won't feel guilty about ...

The thermometer reads 32 degrees.  That's freezing!  Can you believe it?!  I can't. I really, really, really don't like cold weather.  The cold makes my tummy ache.  I ca...

Looking back and reflecting...

I found something last night while I was thumbing through one of my notebooks.  Something I wrote on the 20th of September, when I was feeling a little down.  I say I was feeling down, becau...
