Scott Pryor is best described as a songsmith. His beautifully crafted lyrics tell powerful stories of love, faith and struggle, accompanied simply and elegantly by an acoustic guitar, banjo and occasional harmonica. With an earthy baritone and unfailing conviction in the words he sings, Pryor’s blend of contemporary folk-rock shimmers with vitality and uncommon soul.
Born in North Carolina, raised in Virginia, and now residing in Philadelphia, Pryor began writing songs at the tender age of 10. In 2005 he released his debut album, Suggestions for the Tailor. The album’s eleven tracks introduced Pryor as an emerging artist of depth and imagination who thrives when exploring the convergence of personal, political and spiritual matters.
Pryor is now poised to release his second full-length album, Theater for the Weary, in the fall of ‘08. Featuring a full band and produced by Devin Greenwood (Amos Lee, Birdie Busch), the album promises to be an adventurous reflection of Pryor’s expanding artistic vision and continued growth as a songwriter.
A charismatic and engaging performer, Pryor has shared the stage with Shawn Mullins, Will Oldham, Devon Sproule, Si Kahn, Anais Mitchell, Riley Baugus, and Nervous But Excited, among others. His music has drawn comparisons to Leonard Cohen, Woody Guthrie, M. Ward, and Josh Ritter.
