TIME TO CELEBRATE!!!The University of Florida has fielded a team for since 1906. They have played every year except 1943 due to W.W.II. Every year has had ups and downs, but overall it has been a little frustrating for Gator fans. Even through the great Spurrier playing years, the Gators could not capture the magic and fell short of their goals. However, Gator fans have something to be proud of with the 1990's version of Gator Football - The Fun-and-Gun. Florida's record since Spurrier's return to The Swamp is 83-16-1. Florida has won 5 SEC titles (not counting the two the NCAA stripped), the 1996 National Championship (after the media wrote the Gators off from losing to Nebraska in the 1996 Fiesta Bowl). The Gators have been ranked in the Top 5 seems like forever, and the "wait-till-next-year" is not common anymore in Gator Country. Florida is 1 and Gator Fans expect to stay there for many years, as long as Spurrier and his superb coaching staff are in Gainesville. Florida has appeared in 26 bowl games, seen 107 of its players earn All-America status, including 45 first team All-America, has had 2 Heisman Trophy winners, two "Defensive Player of the Year", played in the first ever SEC Title game, and 26 of its players have been drafted by the NFL in the first round. Finally in 1996 they beat Fsu to become the National Champion. 225-2006 season, Spurrier leaves as head coach to become head coach at South Carolina University, new coach Urban Meyers is expected to give Florida a great view of a new and improved gator dynasty.Prior to 1947 fsu was known as FSCW or The Florida State College for Women. It was a girl school with no mens football team (no offense ladies). -UF leads the head-to-head series with the SEMINOLES with 25 wins, 14 losses and 2 ties (one of those was the Charlie Ward miracle) -fsu graduates 58% of their athletes while Florida has the second highest percentage in the SEC with 87% -fsu has only won 4 NCAA National titles in the last 10 years while Florida has 19 -fsu is North until you smell it and West until you step in it -Florida is ranked ..6 by NCAA News for achieving academic quality and athletic success. fsu ranked ..107 (of 113 colleges) As of this writing the ACC is 50-40 (.555%), while the SEC is a strong 89-26 (.774). -The SEC has lost 3 of 29 non-SEC games many of which are Top 25 teams, while the ACC has lost 6 of 11 including several division II schools.
