FLORIDA GATORS NATIONAL CHAMPIONS 41-14

About Me

ALL OF THE FOLLOWING (EXCEPT THE LAST ONE FROM Sporting News. SEC preview.)Its the 100th season of Florida football, but the most important number in Gainsville this season is two-as in its the second year of Urban Meyer's Coaching reign and folks are expecting offensive fireworks. Meyer's spread offense sputterd for most of last seaons, and frankly, Meyer wont truly be able to run what he wants until QB Chris Leak is gone. Leak is a gifted passer but his running ability leaves alot to be desired, and a running QB is vital in Meyer's offense. Coaches expect Leak to be better this season, to react naturally instead of having to think on the run. The pieces look to be in place at the other skill positions, though a rebuilt line-four new starters- looks iffy. The defense carried the Gators for a good portion of last season, and that group should be even better this season-assuming two new cornerbacks can be found. Expectations are high, probabroly too high for a team with a QB ill suited for the offense, a shaky offensive line and a murderous schedule including 8 bowl teams from last year, oh yea and tennessee.Florida has its most talented team since the Steve Spurrier heyday but plays the toughest schedule in the nation-and thats with two cupcake nonconference games. The rotating league schedule drops Miss. State and adds Auburn; that gives Florida games against each of the leagues top 7 team(execpt themselves of course) Tenn, Bama, LSU, Auburn, UGA, USC, plus the annual bonecrusher at the end with Florida State. Can this marriage be saved? Urban Meyer is committed to senior quarterback Chris Leak, even though Leak fits as well with Meyer's offense as, say, peanut butter and ketchup. The fans are swooning over incoming freshman Tim Tebow. Logic tells you the veteran will continue to run the offense. But I want to see how Meyer manages Tebow's playing time while keeping public expectations at bay.
