Artist Bio: Malan Darras

Malan Darras’ life is a feature film waiting to happen and his music is the soundtrack. The artist, known to fans as an innovative writer and performer has been through as much as any one man on the planet could stand, but continues to create and shine through it all. The latest CD, “Who Is Malan D?” was written and recorded in 40 days, showcasing the prolific songwriter’s ability to continually put out albums faster than some musicians can write songs.
“Put me in a room with a mic and a beat in the morning and I could have an album done that evening” says Darras. “It’s that easy, this is just what my brain does.”
After spending the last few years living in Dallas & Oklahoma, touring nationally with bands and paying most of the money earned to studios to record new albums the singer and computer enthusiast decided it was time to take it to the house… literally… and constructed what is now known as “MalanMusic Studios” a small and creative mixing workstation and recording studio.
“I can do it all now, no time-constraints, no reigns from producers and no groaning from band members when I want to do a throat-singing chant in the middle of a dance song” Darras says. “This is what you call ‘full-contact tracking’ with no holds barred; it’s what I’ve always dreamed of being able to do.”
The new album, released in April, 2007 by Los Angeles label, Pasadena Records is just that, a no holds barred listening experience that jumps music genres like hopscotch squares on a city sidewalk. Think Thom Yorke meets Justin Timberlake and you’ll begin to see the picture. Piano based, electronic, drum and bass, pop music with lyrical matter covering relationship revenge, psychiatric treatments, ghosts and lost dreams, it’s an exciting ride from a new point of view… and it’s catching on.
Before the album was even released, Darras landed a showcase slot at SXSW 2007 in Austin, TX. The live show is unique featuring Darras on pianos, synthesizers, effects units and a laptop and friends and studio musicians on drums, bass and guitar. The album has received airplay from several radio stations and is currently #1 on the Radio Report on XM Radio Channel 43 .
As momentum builds so do the chances of the artist making his first international impact. Plans are underway to market “Who Is Malan D?” in the UK, where it is expected to make its’ biggest splash.
This momentum all comes as quite a surprise to the artist himself who claims he was merely playing around in the new MalanMusic Studios. “I just started tracking at home and things have gone crazy, it’s funny how you work and work and then right when you lay back on your heels and look the other way WAM!! Everything hits you at once.”
The new album is out now and plans to educate audiences worldwide on the answer to the question… “Who Is Malan D?”
