Unlike anything the world has ever heard, the self-dubbed monarch of mixed-media music gives the world a taste of real music and creativity through her solo project.
Bioluminescence, Biolu for short, is a prodigy whose musical growth was stunted by a lack of affluence. Born to two magnificent parents who did the best they could, she was raised in washington heights, with the GW bridge behind her, her life in front or her, and her family by her side. At age 3 she was playing recognizable melodies on the piano. At age 5, she was being ripped off by a piano teacher who took advantage of her ability to play music by ear, and therefore never taught her to read music. It wasn't until middleschool that she'd even begun to learn. At age 10, she moved to teaneck, which made it impossible for her parents to afford any music lessons. This did not at all stop her from constantly practicing the piano and writting songs
During middleschool and highschool, she participated in every choir she could, including bergen county choir, north jersey regional choir and New Jerysey All State choir, where she placed 13th in the state in her voice part (alto II). At age 12, she started to teach herself to play guitar. During Biolu's Junior year, her friends all chipped in to buy her a guitar and to them she is eternally grateful. Senior year of highschool, she fulfilled one of her LIFELONG DREAMS when she joined the string ensemble and started taking cello lessons for the first time. Also during that year, she also took a Marine Biology class and it was there where she learned what Bioluminescence was.
After Highschool, she attended William Paterson University, where she majored in Classical Vocal Performance and minored in Piano. It was her aspiriation to someday become an Opera singer, but unfortunately her education was cut short in 2003 when she could no longer afford college and was forced to drop out.
After Joining the workforce and working her way up the salary ladder, she was FINALLY able to afford to purchase a computer so that she could produce and compose all of the music that had been swimming in her head all these years. SHE COULD NOT HAVE DONE THIS WITHOUT THE HELP OF HER MOTHER AND BROTHER, and each day she is grateful for the gift they provided. September 9th, 2005 was the day she got her Mac Powerbook G4, which she refers to as Joscelyn Juggernaut. This changed Biolu's LIFE forever, and since then, she has produced and recorded over 99 tracks.
Having been born in the 80's and growing up in the 90's, Biolu's influences are numerous and varied, ranging from biz markie to bjork, to freezepop, to franz liszt, to portishead, to prodigy... The list goes on and on. These, and many other influences range from being unnoticable (although ever present) to very noticeable.
Drawing inspiration from the world around her and the people and events that surround her, the majority of biolu's songs are stories of non-fiction, detailed accounts of things that have actually happened.
Her new motto is: "I glow naturally I'm biolu If you fuck with me? I'll write a song about you!"-
