My Grandmother told me one time, " I have lived a good life, I am ready to go.". She was 97 years old and just passed away 7-18-2006.
I started to think, just what is a "good life"? Sure she did a lot of traveling across the country. She raised two successful sons, (one my dad). Her and my Grandfather owned their own Pharmacy. I flipped through a photo album one night with her. She could barely remember the people in there. But yet, she knew she had a "good life".
If I were to die today, would I have lived a good life?? What about you?? What I learned from my grandmom is that the simple things in life matter the most. I have done and seen a lot in my life, but I wouldn't give up the little things I have done with the ones I love. Like, sitting on the deck and watching the fire flies put on their nightly show, absolutely beautiful!! Going fishing off the local pier. Yard sailing, working in the yard. Making Sunday breakfast. Going to the dog park. Just simple little things that make my life a "good life". My friends get angry when I stay in on Friday nights or the weekend. I would much rather eat popcorn and watch a good movie with my girlfriend sometimes then hang out at the bar. Don't get me wrong, I still love to go karaoke with the gang. I've said it once and I'll say it again. When you are with somebody, they come first, there should be no place else you would rather be then with them. If your in it for the long run, you better make sure this is the right one.
My advise to you, is live your life!!! GO, SEE, TASTE, TOUCH!!! Enjoy your time with the ones you love. Someday life might of reached it's end for you, and you may realize you pissed it all away on waiting. You never know, one day you may be turning to your grandchild and saying you "lived a good life." Just make sure you truly have.
