These days music tends to convey a message of following the crowd; any social ideal seemingly necessary to fit in and drown in fame. Very few artists have the confidence to think outside the box and push music that is solely their own.
Fueled by the inspiration given to him by artists like Alanis Morissette, Interpol, Dave Matthews Band and Radiohead, Kevin Patrick (vocals/acoustic guitar) started playing music when he was only 11. At age 16 after being in a band he went solo, but he felt that just being another singer with an acoustic guitar did not suit him, so after a year and a half he teamed up with drummer Matt Olsson in early September 2004. Olsson was merely 15-years-old and Patrick was 18. The first time they played together they felt a musical connection beyond words; they’d only known each other a few hours, but they might as well have been playing together their whole lives. They swore from that day forward that they would never give up this musical partnership; a band that kept the name Kevin Patrick. Two weeks after their meeting, they started playing shows together and winning battle of the bands in their home state of New Jersey.
Their approach is truly unlike anything bands today are putting forth: simple 4-string acoustic guitar, raw emotional vocals, searing lyrics, electric guitar, bass, and drums as the lead instrument. Though the world can be close-minded when it comes to diversity, Kevin Patrick does not plan on changing their sound for anyone else’s satisfaction. “I’ve never been able to play or write anything other than what I literally feel,†Patrick says, “And we’re very confident in what we do.â€
September 2006 saw the independent release of Kevin Patrick's EP Practice Makes Perfect, mastered by Jayson DeZuzio (Coheed and Cambria, My Chemical Romance), and since then they have been receiving major label recognition, in addition to having their song "Alive" used in an independent film called "Thursday Night." The Aquarian Weekly calls the EP "a ray of hope."
After toying with the idea many times over, the duo decided it was time for the once-in-awhile bass and electric guitar to become permanent. So in October 2006 Eric Annicchiarico (bass) and Dayn Viglione (electric guitar) filled those spots for good. Now that Kevin Patrick is a solidified family of 4, they are ready to continue their success and show the world what it's like to live on your own terms; not everyone else's.
