About Me

I'm from lots of different places. I currently live in Macon GA with the love of my life, Dan Zook, my son Connor Zook, an ancient cat and the rest of the crew here in Upper Mongolia. I'm a professor of English Literature and Composition at Macon State College and when I don't have my head up my term papers or a three-inch thick novel, I write poetry, fiction and an occasional critical article. Okay, I write an occasional critical artical and dabble in poetry and fiction.I like a cold glass of iced tea on the front porch, books of all ilks and writers (except Robert Ludlum -- his dialogue is crap)and a variety of music from dead 16th Century Baroque guys to Hank Vegas, though I've currently got a schoolgirl's crush on Cordero.

My Interests

Reading and Writing (well, duh). Cooking when I've got the time, talking endlessly about books and their writers and whether or not I've got the chops and guts to write a good one.

I'd like to meet:

More iced tea drinkers and anyone who likes to argue Lacanian metaphysics and Hegelian spirituality. And God, I want to ask her what's up with the platypus and George Bush.

Music:

Miles Davis, Santana, Zeppelin, Pavement, Cake, Groove Armada, Delirium, Nelly Furtado, Ani di Franco, Concrete Blonde, Hank Vegas, Cordero, Magnificent Bastard, and if it's really late at night, Al Stewart.

Movies:

Anything Hitchcock, Bladerunner, Lord of the Rings, and any Japanese ghost story. In fact any ghost story. Bring it on - I've got a long-standing jones for anything where someone's dead and vengeful.

Television:

As little as possible, though tend to get hooked through Netflix on HBO miniseries like Carnivale, Deadwood, and Six Feet Under. I also like Rescue Me and Nip Tuck (when I'm in front of a TV at the right time) and old M*A*S*H reruns.

Books:

Yes. Currently reading DAniel Pool's What Jane Austen Ate and Dickens Knew, read War and Peace while preggers with Connor, read Richardson's Pamela, Fitzgerald's The Beautiful and the Damned but am sitting on Proust's Remembrance of Things Past

Heroes:

Elizabeth I, Charles Darwin, Ghandi, Dr. Martin Luther King, Madonna (ask me sometime) and the lady who keeps camping out on George Bush's lawn to protest the war in Iraq.

Blue Skies

The weather has been this spectacular, thunder-and-lightning accompanied barrage of running water. This sounds like a good idea, given local drought conditions, but it's a bit rough the mood crushin...

Life and Lipstick

Last night I dreamt that my favorite lipstick was crushed and that I needed to replace it immediately. I spent the rest of the dream in hybrid travel shop/salon cosmetics counter trying to find the ri...

Autumn and Bibliophilia

I love the Fall. The cooler weather, fog and changing colors around here have recently brought in my favorite season. Spring is pretty, but the riot of Autumnal colors and rich, warm tones mixed with ...
