I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I'm currently a librarian with the Humanities Team at the University of Maryland, College Park. Previously I was a librarian with the College of Information Studies here at the University for about 3 1/2 years, and before that I was a graduate student there for 2 years. I've just finished a second master's degree (this time a Master of Arts in English Language & Literature, with a focus on folklore and mythology, American literature, music, and whatever else I find interesting.) In my free time (which isn't much) I enjoy working out (particularly running and boxing), reading, listening to all kinds of music and going to the movies...

My Interests

Reading (classics, music-related non-fiction, history and politics, humorous essays, Cormac McCarthy, Faulkner, Conrad), movies (all genres, all eras), music (ditto, though I'm partial to the blues (Delta, Chicago, or Piedmont), old-time country and folk, the Rolling Stones, Dylan and The Band, first-wave punk, and Springsteen), vegetarian cooking, and guinea pigs!

I'd like to meet:

Old friends, mostly, though new friends are always good (unless they're weirdos).

Music:

You name it, I'll listen to it at least once, though I don't have much patience for new whiny-rock (talkin' to you, Coldplay!) or the noisy, grinding stuff. Some favorites: Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, Little Walter, Tom Waits, Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Jimmie Rodgers, Bob Wills, Bob Dylan, The Clash, Talking Heads, Warren Zevon, Elvis Presley, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, The Band, Folkways collections and field recordings.

Movies:

Almost anything. Some new favorites: I'm Not There, Superbad, Pan's Labyrinth, Children of Men, Little Children, Borat, The Proposition. Some old favorites: Once Upon a Time in the West, Unforgiven, Seven Samurai, Anchorman, Jaws, Casablanca, Goodfellas, Godfather I & II, Chinatown, Nashville...

Television:

The Office, My Name Is Earl, 30 Rock, Scrubs, boxing, UFC, The Shield, The Wire

Books:
