The Great Conniptions of Saint Ignatious, a.k.a. The Big Ig, was formed at the Cyber Cafe West in Binghamton, NY, USA on November 14, 2007, with Al Miele on the drums, Randy McStine on the guitar, Jamie Osterhout on bass and John Kanazawich playing keyboards. Jeff Stachyra of New Clear Studios made a live, multi-track recording of the evening. This recording documents the free-flowing stream of consciousness of the music. It transcended jamming and, on repeated listening, compositional form becomes apparent.

Band Members: John Kanazawich, keyboards; Randy McStine, guitar; Jamie Osterhout, bass; Al Miele, drums. Subsequent incarnations of The Big Ig brought to the stage Todd Evans on guitar, Jim Rosati on drums and Randy McStine on drums. John whipped out his flute for the October '08 gig. Most recent member to co-improvise is Robert Weinberger on the saxes.
Influences: King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Yes, Return to Forever, Jeff Beck, Umphree's McGee, Trey Gunn, Tony Levin
Sounds Like: Great Conniptions of Ignacious, a.k.a. The Big Ig, is not so much a jam-band as it takes jamming to a new level. It is more of a real-time group-composition band. The musicians bring to the group not only their instruments and talents, but also years of training and playing, countless musical and life experiences, and a myriad of diverse influences. Combine that with explosive sparks of creativity and brilliance inspired in the "Be-Here-Now" of the moment. The music is completely unrehearsed and unedited, allowing the listener to become completely immersed in the musical stream of consciousness as it unfolds. Conniptions approach to music-making is very Zen-like, indeed.
