Hailing from a now defunct and impoverished mining community the Dirty Lips tell cheerful yet melancholic stories of Love, Anger, Bitterness, Drunkenness and Devotion. The band offer catchy tunes with soaring melodies and a rock n roll attitude comparable to bands such as Oasis, the Libertines and the Stone Roses. Drawing influences from bands such as the Beatles, the Who, Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones the band has steadily built up a following with gigs generally being well received.
The band has recently undergone a line-up change with guitarist Jamie Wales joining guitarist and lead vocalist James Foy, bass and backing vocalist Richard Lowe and drummer Paul Exton. In October 2006 the Dirty Lips recorded a five track demo at Sheffield’s “2 Fly†Studios with Arctic Monkeys demo producer Alan Smyth. Gigs have now resumed as of the end of January at venues around the country beginning at The Social in Nottingham. “Last Chance Saloon†is now receiving regular plays on BBC Radio Sheffield and a music video is to be filmed over the coming months.
