I spend most of my free time sailing. I am the Capri Fleet Captain of the UCI Sailing Association , and in that capacity I organize club races. I also race in UCI's Shields fleet, and I assist with classes for UCI and the Sea Scouts .
Here are some pictures of me crewing in Balbo Yacht Club's Beer Cans regatta. (I'm the one with the beard and long hair.)
Here I am racing in the American Legion Yacht Club's Sundowner Series. The photo was taken from another boat in the race, which provided a nice frame. We abandoned this race to get back to the docks before getting stuck in a thunderstorm.
Here I am finishing a race in the Southern California Yachting Association's Midwinter Regatta 2005, hosted by Balboa Yacht Club. I use this photo as my avatar for most web communities I participate in.
A year later, in the 2006 Midwinter Regatta, I got an awesome start in the second race. I was right on the line next to the comittee boat, which took the photo. You can also see two other Shields starting further down the line and the pin end of the line. What you can't see are the two boats trailing behind me eating my bad air. When I consistantly start like that, I will win regattas.
Here I am refereeing the UCI Sailing Association's prototype game of Sailball in a Boston whaler. The premise of the game is to try to carry a ball upwind, but you must pass it to a teammate or drop it before you tack or jybe. I have written up formal rules for the game. My friend Bill and his wife Karin are in the Capri.
