Originally named the Anthony Horgan Septet, when greeted with a sea of blank stares and a complete lack of social validation from their punk rock counterparts, the collective decided to change their name to the slightly more confrontational and perhaps more punk rock name in The Vaginals. Since then the band have never looked back, sharing the stage with such notable bands as The Knockabouts and The Knockabouts and even once boasting distinguished musician Tom Bones as a guest trombonist.
Imagine a bare chested Sublime playing at your sisters 21st, giving mic grabs to an intoxicated Tim Armstrong in the front row, whilst the Reel Big Fish horn section drink your rider, and you’ll almost have an understanding of The Vaginals sound that today’s kids are calling third wave ska.
More serious than your average kooky ska band, and more kooky than your average serious punk band, The Vaginals appeal in perhaps ironically contagious, earning them a colossal following of rent a crowd friends and male groupies.
