By the time Andromeda was born on December 5, 1981 she already had quite the resume. Born to Jazz musician parents Akua and Steve Turre, Andromeda was in utero for the run of Dream Girls, as well as a slew of recording sessions and live performances with Max Roach, Fania and Carmen McRae. Needless to say, she developed a love for music and the arts at a very young age. Growing up with such eulipion parents, Andromeda absorbed everything from Bach to Bird to her fathers shell choir and mothers swinging string quartet. This gave her a plethora of sounds and styles from which to draw upon when creating her own music. Andromeda started composing on piano while studying with Sonelious Smith.
At age five, Andromeda began studying dance at the Dance Theater of Harlem School. She quickly earned solo spots during performances at City Center and the World Trade Center and was even invited to perform with Gregory Hines and Savion Glover at the Apollo Theater. Andromeda has studied ballet, tap, jazz, Horton, Graham, modern, flamenco, classical Indian dance, Tango and belly dancing. She also loves Yoga. While still in elementary school, Andromeda sang her first jingle for Nickelodeon. She has also done jingles for car commercials and restaurants. While at a high school choir competition at Berklee College of Music, Andromeda won an outstanding vocalists award which included a scholarship to attend to Berklees' summer music program. After returning from her summer at Berklee, Andromeda joined the School of Visual and Performing Arts at Montclair High School and starred in her first musical The Mystery of Edwin Drood, (Edwin Drood / Alice Nutting) her junior year. Director Patrick Dearborn continued to have her as his leading lady in musicals such as Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Narrator) and several other showcases. And as if competing, performing and keeping good grades didn't keep her busy enough, Andromeda was also the Teen Correspondant for the popular MSNBC news show "HomePage". Andromeda graduated from Montclair High School in 2000, and was in the Whos Who of American High School Students for her outstanding achievements both extra-curricular and academic.
After high school, Andromeda attended the Boston Conservatory as a Theater major for one year, but quickly transferred to the Berklee College of Music. At Berklee, Andromeda performed at the 2003 commencement concert with Dianne Reeves and Steven Tyler of Aerosmith. She also met Mark Petrie who used her voice for his award winning film score for the Independant Film "Cafe and Tobacco" directed by Michael Justiz. After a year and a half at Berklee, Andromeda left to go on tour with Ray Charles. As a Raelette, Andromeda was able to do her two favorite things; sing and travel. She wrote and directed the vocal arrangements for the Ray Charles Tribute Tour and was excited to take the reins as head Raelette.
Returning to New York, Andromeda stayed busy singing background vocals for various artist and tours, coaching her vocal students / bands and helping with everything from vocal training to arranging music to performance techniques and relaxation. She was also the percussionist and background vocalist for "The Femm Nameless" (all girl afro-beat band, Full Cut Records). During their UK tour, they had the privilege of opening for Femi Kuti at the Barbican Museum in London.
Andromeda starred in Woody Allen's "Murder Mystery Blues" at the Midtown Theater in NYC (59e59.org) in which she was acting, singing, dancing and playing the piano. She has also been the featured vocalist with the JC Hopkins Biggish Band performing from coast to coast (www.jchopkins.com).
Currently living in Japan, Andromeda is starring in "Big Band Beat" a jazz musical at the Broadway Musical Theater inside Tokyo Disney Resort. Bringing together the sounds of world music, jazz and pop with style and sophistication, Andromeda continues to compose while abroad. She also enjoys cooking exotic foods, listening to music and interior design. She always takes time to stop and smell the roses and encourages you to do the same any chance you get.
