Who is Shambo?
Shambo is one of the names of Lord Shiva.
In hinduism God is seen in many forms and names, but the main deity is the trinity of Brahma (creator) Vishnu (sustainer) and Shiva (distroyer)
Everything that is created is sustained for a period of time and finally dissolves, this is an eternal cycle.
The literal meaning of Shambo is "One who gives joy/happiness/bliss.
So you may wonder: how can someone who is the destroyer give happiness? That's by destroying unhappiness, ignorance, darkness etc.Shambo is also the name used by Tammo Heikens as a bandname for his soloprojects.
Shambo is player of many stringed intruments like sitar, guitar, esraj, bassguitar and piano and is also composer and performer of different kinds of spiritual and devotional types of music largely coloured by Indian influences as a result of his indept study of Hindustani music.
Shambo learned to play the sitar from several teachers including one of the greatest sitarplayers alive today: Buddhaditya Mukherjee. At present Shambo is active as performer in several ensembles like Shai'rana, Mr.Averell and Dhroeh Nankoe ensemble and as a solositarperformer.
He also runs a small studio as a recordingengineer/producer.
Many of his own albums are devoted to Sathya Sai Baba and follow a traditional bhajan concept mixed with western style arrangements and instrumentation.
