The PBR on display at the Mare Island Historic Park Foundation, was donated by Special Boat Unit Eleven (SBU XI). SBU XI was established at Mare Island (Vallejo, CA) in 1978. The Unit was assigned to maintain the Navy's and U.S. Special operations Command's expertise in Riverine Warfare. More than twenty four craft operated from the base at Mare Island and they were supported by 150 active and reserve personnel. The Unit had responsibility in the Pacific and Southeast Asian theaters of operations. The Unit conducted advance training deployments in Thailand and Cambodia. SBU XI provided security to the Concord Naval Weapons Station during Desert Storm and Desert Shield operations in 1990 and 1991. Further, SBU XI has been active in disaster relief situations during Bay Area floods and earthquakes. SBU XI and its sister unit SBU XXII were also known as the "Brown Water Navy." SBU XI was disestablished in Ooctober 1996. The PBR on display, served as "Mascot" for SBU XI. It is painted with its' distinctive sharks teeth motif. The 50,000 square foot Artifact Museum, located in Mare Island Historic Park is now the PBR's new home. The Artifact Museum itself, has historic significance, having been built under David Glasgow Farragut, a Civil War hero, who later became the Navy's first Admiral.
