I am here for Friends

About Me

I am a 51 year old mother of two, grandmother of 4. I have been divorced since 1984 and enjoy my life as a single woman. I do not drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes or do drugs of any type.I have a son in the United States Marine Corps. He is married with two children (daughter and son) and recently did a tour of duty in Iraq serving his country in the fight for freedom for all. He is currently stationed in Camp Lejune, North Carolina. He is due to go back for his second tour of duty in Iraq in September "07"I have a daughter who works for a Louisiana State Representative. She is divorced with two sons, and we share a friendship relationship. I am honored to have been able to be a part of helping her in the raising of her two boys who are 14 years apart.I am co-founder of a non-profit support group "Shoulders to Lean On" in the Tri-parish area of Terrebonne, Lafourche, and St. Mary Parishs in South Louisiana. We are in our fourth year of service, helping families cope with the process of having a family member, friend or loved one incarcerated.I am the former Ex-director of a non-profit organization called Louisiana CURE (Citizens United for Rehabilitation of Errants), which I resigned in August of 2006. I currently remain a Co-chair on a "Committee of Issue" with National and International CURE. I travel alot with the organization and advocate for the "Restorative Justice" of prisoners. I am back from Ivory Coast in Africa, as the International Representative for Africa, we were successful in getting 8 chapters trained and running in the fall of 2007 for the organization. Only two people were selected to travel there to start up an International chapter there and I was one of them. The conditions there were definitive of a third world country and the prisons there were in deplorable condition.I go into prisons across the State of Louisiana and do pre-release programs. Teaching "Resume' Writing", "Dress for Success", "Mock Job Interview", and "Learning To Live on What I Make" programs. I as well provide prisoners with job resource information which they can use to find employment upon release.I am as well the outreach for the organization of the Lifers Association at Angola State Penitentiary. We travel across the State of Louisiana helping families to learn how to be effective in supporting their family member or loved one through Legislature. As well as teaching them that there are others in their area who have the same concerns as themselves.
