The word, karma, often refers to "reaping what is sown", however a closer interpretation would probably be, "getting what is being given." Thus, the term "instant karma," as coined by John Lennon, is actually redundant, as karma is experienced in a feedback loop already in place. What does it mean then, to have Super Karma? If "karma" alludes to the balance inherent in person-to-universe interactions, then how could one's cosmic reciprocations be more so? The answer must be that the term Super Karma infers a surge on both the giving and receiving end - a heightened interactivity between the self and the universe.
Of course, Super Karma also refers to singer/songwriter/instrumentalist, Karma (Baby Squirrel), whose ethereal voice and subtle ukulele strumming lead a group of well-seasoned, flavorful West Coast pop-rockers, and a producer/keyboardist from Phoenix (Baby Bear) through their ten song EP. Their song cycle, which seems preoccupied with the idea of stargazing with lovers, offers a breezy naivete until precociously delving into astronomical forecasts and using vocabulary not often heard outside of the science department. Meanwhile, Baby Polar Bear adds a decidedly post-colonial take on the banjo, as the rhythm section (Baby Giraffe- drums, Baby Jelly- Bass, and Baby Otter- electric guitar) handles each song with the careful deliberation of a friendly ogre caring for a lost duckling.
Despite their eccentricities, this is not an indier-than-thou effort. Super Karma is content to simply increase their own spiritual bandwidth through the experience of creating. For these lovable creatures, the gift is in the giving. If you happen to find yourself the recipient of one of these cosmic love-offerings, consider yourself one of the lucky ones, then give it away.
