Refurb is an original rock outfit hailing from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Fronted by long time singer/songwriter Kevin McQuiston, Refurb is a far cry from Kevin's acoustic pop sensibilities. Aiming for a "hooky, catchy, big guitar rock" sound, McQuiston recruited a diverse group of musicians to fill the ranks. On bass is Ron Telfor, who previously played with McQuiston in KMB. On lead guitar is Matt Callahan, a recent college grad who met Kevin more than a decade ago when the seasoned musician gave Matt guitar lessons. Behind the drums is the ever-buoyant Darnel Hillary, a versatile rhythmist - new to the genre of alt rock - whose hip-hop influences give Refurb a truly unique sound. Refurb plans to record its first EP in the near future, with more gigs in the Philadelphia area currently being lined up.
Kevin: "I love what we're doing and I love every one of these guys and I think that the universe's timing is perfect...it's all about the organic experience."
Darnel: "On the radio stations today...we don't hear music that should be heard. There's a lot of music out there that isn't being played. People need to hear something more diverse. Music is the way it is today because the record companies don't want to take a chance on something that might not sell."
Ron: "I'm bringing the bass to the forefront...the B in Refurb is for bass."
"Just you know, having fun, you gotta have fun til the very end, whether you get paid or not. "
Matt: "In a world where everybody wants to be the next emo band catering to the tween girl demographic, I think people have forgotten that mainstream rock used to, well, rock. And that's our goal - we want to bring real, honest rock music back to the radio playlists and make local, original bands a viable live act again."
