About Me

I take good care of myself. I wear sunglasses year-round and gloves for half the year. I think everyone should wear sunscreen every day. I feel happiest when I am being useful, so I end up frequently dispensing unnecessary advice.

My Interests

I like graphic design, fashion, marketing/advertising, art. Husband. Dog. Chesapeake Bay. Restaurants. Movie theaters. Shoes. Home Decor/Organization magazines. Bright colors. Road trips. Helvetica. Being conscientious. Bringing my own shopping bag.

I'd like to meet:

Simon Doonan, author, creative director at Barney's and glamorous eccentric. I'd put him in my pocket and whip him out when I had to put people in line. When I was in New York I kept thinking I'd see him at a restaurant or something. Then I discovered he's barely 5'4". Perhaps I should have lowered my gaze...

Music:

Heavy rotation in the car: The Flaming Lips. LCD Soundsystem. Belle & Sebastian. Low. The Donkeys (they are so California it will make you cry).

Movies:

Most documentaries. And Purple Rain.

Television:

Friday night is all about The Dog Whisperer. Also: Flight of the Conchords, Big Love, Scrubs, The Office, 30 Rock, The Venture Brothers. The Daily Show + Colbert Report.

Books:

Lots on nonfiction: "Deluxe: How Luxury Lost its Luster" + "The Fashion Book" published by Phaidon; "The Associated Press Stylebook," "Kitchen Confidential" and "Taking Charge of Your Fertility." Favorite Periodicals: Vogue, W, Dominio, The New York Times.

Heroes:

Who needs heros? I admire most of the people I know.

Whats in a name?

I tend to anthropomorphize. Our TiVo is named Stevo. When we replaced it with a Cox DVR, I named it Dave-o. Rob gave me a bronze sculpture of a bird on my birthday a couple years ago, and I immediatel...

So yesterday was out third anniversary. I'm not much for anniversaries (there's always next year), but Rob is slightly more sentimental and this was the first anniversary for which he'd actually be in...

Other people’s lives seem much more interesting...

It's funny how I read some people's blogs and look at their photos and think, "Damn, that house looks DIRTY." Even though I'm only really seeing two square feet of a room per photo, there are som...

MOTHERS: Take you babies home!

This one goes out to the young mom I saw at Marshall's last night: Take your baby home! It was WAY too young to be out shopping at 8pm. It was like a puppy that didn't have its bark yet--his crying wa...

Fashion Lessons Learned the Hard Way

Never throw away a good pair of jeans--ever. Even if they don't fit, you might be that size again someday. Remember the nineties, when vintage, high-waist Calvin Kleins were abundant in thrift stores?...
