****UPDATE****
Here is the update on the trial:
Oct. 17-19- Jury Selection
Oct. 19th or 20th will be opening statements and the witnesses will start being called. It will start at 9:15 (try to get there around 8:45 if you plan on attending). There is usually a pretty long line because of all the jurors. It is at 190 Hedding St. (right next to the main jail) and it is in Dept. 39 on the 6th floor. There will only be court Mon-Thurs and it will go until 4:30ish or so. If you can go only go half day, lunch will be from 11:45 to 1:30. I hope some of you can make it out there. Thanks for the support! For those of you that don't know who this is, it is Regina. Seeing as how this is a good marketing tool I figured I would set this up for just that. My father was killed in Feb. 04' in a case of mistaken identity. An undercover narcotics agent shot and killed my father in cold blood. There are witnesses that testified that my father was running AWAY from the agent with both hands in the air saying, "don't shoot" but the agent fired anyway. He originally gave a statement saying that he felt his life was in danger and he DEFINITELY saw a gun in my fathers hand. His story did not stay the same in court. In court he said he wasn't sure if he saw a gun or not. They never found a gun on my father. Two different officers patted my father down after he was shot and he had no weapons on him. They later said they came up with a knife that they said they found in my fathers pants (after they had been ripped off and after he was already pronounced dead). The pants were left at the scene. Neither one of the officers that patted him down found this alleged knife. It was also in blood SOAKED pants. They said there were NO fingerprints on it and it had maybe a tiny drop of blood. The jury saw through all the not so well prepared testimonies by all the agents involved. They continuously tripped themselves up on their words and contradicted one another's story. After about a week in trial they finally came to a verdict. The agent is to be tried for Voluntary Manslaughter. This is only a small victory for my family. The trial is set for September 26th, 2005. The trial is open to the public and this will determine whether or not another officer/agent walks.
