Category five, by our definition, is an unstopable musical force of which there is no escape. This band has been slowly forming since the early 90's. Origionally named "Persecution," our music was comprized of rifs and sounds from the earlier Megadeth and Slayer days. After a year of hard work and doing a few shows the band and some of it's members had to take an unfortunate turn in other directions leading to the death of Persecution. Equipment was sold, members moved away and all faith was lost. Only two of us, including myself (Steven Bateman) and Robbie Mayeaux were the only origional members left. Everyone else moved out of state to start new lives. Fortunately for all of us today, Myles Foreman, though not even in the state at the time, never lost site of the all american rock-n-roll dream. After spending a couple of years in Georgia, he finally moved back to Louisiana where he continued to write music and practice his guitar relentlessly letting little to nothing slow him down. Meanwhile, Robbie and I were aimlessly working through life with practically no idea of what was in store for us. No guitar, no amps, no singer, and a drum kit that left much to be desired of, we pretty much had given up all hope that a band would ever be formed again. Then one day, in about mid March of 2001, Myles decides to call me up and invited Robie and I over to check out the new Korg D-12 digital recorder he bought. Not giving much thought to what Myles may be planning in the back of his mind, I hopped in my car and decided to pick up Robbie on the way. Origionally we were just asked to lay down some drum tracks to a couple of songs Myles had recorded. It all seemed innocent enough. Of coarse he had different idea in the back of his mind, Myles had bigger plans than Rob and I would ever had imagined. Ok, this is the part where the sky opens up and a bright ray of light falls upon our heads.(Actually,I think it was just from the skylight above) Anyway, we liked what we heard and decided to join in with only the intent of having something to do in our spare time. Now we all know that isn't the way things turned out. After that everything started to move. We found a bass player (Jeremy Delatte) and a singer (Dereck Lambert) to add to the mix and arranged to have our first practice which started out in my house. After realizing that my shack of a house wasn't going to cut it, we started to rebuild, wall up, rewire and insulate what was my Grandfather's shed/garage with more free building supplies available than we could have ever imagined. Luck was definately going our way. From there the rest is history in the making. Now here we are three years later with five of the most dedicated musicians I have ever had the privilege of playing with, and a sound, style and chemistry that most can't deny. So keep your ears and eyes open for a Category 5 to come around, it just might blow you away!
