Music, movies, reading. Recently, I've become more interested in television again after spending some time home with my newborn son. He slept a lot and I spent a lot of time watching crappy TV which I grew to love.Call me a dork if you must, but I also scrapbook, sing karaoke, and have a new-found love of playing Bingo - online and in the smoke-filled bingo halls around town. There is no greater joy to a gambler than being stared down by a leather faced, chain smoking granny when you get to raise your hand and yell bingo.I love to travel, although I haven't done much of it.I'm a cooking novice, but hope that one day I'll have the kitchen and some time to really do some ass-kicking to the tastebuds of people in my life. I'm a chubby chick who loves to eat, so learning to cook well would be a huge bonus. Baking is also high on my list of things I like to do in the kitchen. Some of my quirky interests include: window shopping, planning parties that never happen, financial planning, figuring out things that involve math, and list making.
People who have something to offer in the way of inspiration. I don't expect a muse or a prophet, but I love to sponge up to new people and draw from their stories, experiences and interests. My relationships in the past few years have all changed dramatically and I now call very few people "friend". This makes me sad, but when I think back on people I miss I realize they all inspired me in some way. Either to be a better person or maybe just showing me some cool shit along the way.
I used to spend a lot of time trying new music and artists on for size. Then I met a boy (who later became my husband) who eats, sleeps and breathes music and that part of me went away a little.I still love to listen to music, but it's more of a passive interest these days.My collection includes all sorts of wacky shit, but to summarize I'd say I'm a big sucker for singer/songwriters like John Mayer & Howie Day. I don't like many female artists, but Tori Amos flips my switch.I like country music, but I can't name many of the artists... I just like to sing some of the songs.80s rock is a big fave and no matter how you slice it, I'll always love Bon Jovi.I'll never turn down a chance to see Mustard Plug (ska) or Richard Marx live.Depeche Mode, The Cure & REM are still large parts of my collection and I don't ever see that changing.I was a GIANT New Kids on the Block fan and I still own and proudly display all of their CDs. Even though I didn't marry Donnie Wahlberg like I planned, I'm still secretly hoping for a big reunion.Oldies ARE goodies and Elvis Presley, depsite his downfalls, was an incredibly talented performer and had a real love an appreciation for music.
I could spend a year writing a list of all the movies I love. I'm the type that will watch the same movie 30 times and never be bored with it. Some of the tops that come to mind right now and are worth mentioning are: The Breakfast Club - which I discovered I can still quote! So, I Married an Axe Murder, Dragnet, The Outsiders, EdTV, Rounders, The Kevin Smith movies, Uncle Buck, American History X, Seven, Titanic, Up Close & Personal, Armageddon (which STILL makes me sob).
If you haven't taken the time to watch Studio 60 on The Sunset Strip do it IMMEDIATELY. It's brilliant... the best thing on TV in years as far as I'm concerned.I never watched Sex and the City when it was on, but borrowed the series from a friend last year. Watched it all the way through and LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it.I own most of the seasons of Friends. On the Food Network, I can't get enough of Rachel Ray (30 Minute Meals & $40 A Day), Paula Dean or Emeril Live. The Family Guy is HI-LARIOUS and I still really dig the Simpsons after all these years.Red Wing hockey is always entertaining.I'm not ashamed to admit that I watched a LOT of The Real Housewives of Orange County on Bravo this season. Rich people fascinate me.
I still have my collection of The Babysitter Club & Sweet Valley High books from my younger days. I hope to one day have a daughter who will cherish them as much as I did. I spent a lot of time reading as an older kid/younger teen and have gotten away from it as I got older.Currently, I'm not reading anything, but I do have two Janet Evanovich books that need my attention.I've read all of John Grisham's books and find those very entertaining.I couldn't even get started on The stupid Divinci Code.... it bored me to tears.Catcher in the Rye & Where the Sidewalk Ends are still some of my faves after all these years.I also have a lot of cookbooks that I leaf through on a regular basis and subscribe to several magazines including 3 different parenting magazines, Oprah, Budget Living, Domino, Rachel Ray's magazine and Woman's Day.
My mom.
