About Me

The current musical output of Trevor Edmonds, under the umbrella of Conifer Rock, is a product of evolution. Trevor began playing guitar and creating original music when he was seventeen, in a fairly straight-forward alternative rock group that went under several forgettable names. It wasn't until he started college at Northern Michigan University that his musical interests began to grow exponentially. Prior to university, Trevor's musical interests included various British classic rock groups, namely Pink Floyd, and a smattering of mid-90s alternative rock bands. There were two key elements that set the process of re-education into effect during his time at college: his work at Northern Michigan University's college radio station WUPX, which offered him access to a respectable selection of electronic music to listen to and explore at his leisure, and becoming roommates with high school friend Dan Streeting. Dan had been listening to a wide variety of music since his junior high years. He helped to solidify Trevor's interest in groups and artists such as Aphex Twin, Pulp, and Portishead, just to name a few. This influence could only be described as positive. After the first year of rooming together, the two formed a band entitled Metropolis with two other friends from their hometown. This group provided a worthwhile training ground for the future musical endeavors of both Trevor and Dan.At the start of their junior year of college, the two formed Spectral Mornings, which serves as their prime source of creative musical output. Within the group, Trevor has been able to become comfortable with what he feels is, in a sense, his signature sound. He programmed fuzzy edged synthesizer patches that resembled the moments between sleep and consciousness, created an arsenal of circuit-bent electronics which added chaotic textures to the band's sound, and developed his performance skills on a handful of instruments. As he continued to create textures and sequences of tones that he felt were relatively unique, he decided that creating music outside of Spectral Mornings would be a worthwhile experiment, and the then known-as Chauceworth Aif, now Conifer Rock, project began.
