About Me
"Later Than Soon" is a contemporary rock band with roots in Baltimore, MD. The band is the brainchild of songwriter/guitarist Bert Hall. Later Than Soon's music fuses a mix of alternative rock, reggae and jazz into an innovative melodic sound that is sure to break new ground while engaging listeners with it's wide musical spectrum.
"Later Than Soon" is comprised of three very capable musicians: Bert Hall, lead vocals, guitar and guitar synthesizer; and Anthony "Blue" Jenkins, bass guitar, vocals. Our cd, "Stranger Truth than Fiction" was recorded in early 2004 and had a limited release that summer. STtF introduced the band's eclectic stylistic mix fueled by songwriter Bert Hall's quirky originals and the powerhouse rythym section of Anthiny "Blue" Jenkins and Russell Hayward III.
The band began as a trio consisting of Hall, Jenkins and drummer Mark Ayers.
A second guitarist, Adam Chess briefly joined the band but the group returned to a trio format.Bert Hall(Skeletor) has played in a variety of diverse bands, over nearly 25 years, as bassist, guitarist and occassionally, vocalist. For several years, Bert performed with reknowned doom metal band Revelation who contributed to the, now legendary, "Dark Passages" doom metal compilation and Revelation's debut cd "Salvation's Answer", both on Rise Above Records.
Over many years, Hall composed a large catalogue of original material that Later than Soon drew heavily on as the foundation of their debut cd "Stranger Truth than Fiction" and sessions in preparation for the band's follow up cd "Mental Floss".Artists who have influenced Hall's guitar style include Robin Guthrie, Wayne Grim, Johnny Marr, Alex Lifeson, and Steve Howe. Noteable moments in Hall's career have included performances at the College Music Journal festival, Artscape, Templars of Doom and SoWeBo festivals, numerous televised and radio broadcast appearances.Anthony "Blue" Jenkins or simply "Blue" as he prefers to be called, has performed in a variety of diverse musical settings. Over the last several years, while holding down the bottom as the bassist for the Morgan State Jazz Combo, Blue has played with Lafayette Gilchrist and the New Volcanoes(jazz) and Sirious B as well as a number of duo and trio collaborations. Continually developing as a songwriter and musician, Blue continues to compose and inform the music he performs with his personal style, which taps into and fuses jazz, rock, go-go, reggae and other eclectic influences and techniques.Roger Stewart is a regular fixture on the Baltimore music scene from numerous local jazz and rock gigs and most notably as timekeeper for Jeznick.
