Sparks Lights and Flames

Sparks Lights and Flames formed in May 2004 after previous efforts Aurasun and prospect split up. Sparks Lights and Flames came together with the hope and united theory of never conforming and selling themselves as a particular brand, a fashion statement, a trend passing through the wind, Sparks Lights and Flames all agreed that limitation and lack of freedom was useless. The group intended to make music for themselves and all found it exciting to be playing in a room knowing each person was as deeply passionate as each other. Sparks Lights and Flames concert history began on May 30th, the show marked the end of an era for the local scene, with it being the last show at legendary Alice Springs, it also marked a brand new era, for Sparks Lights and Flames were starting their crusade of gentlemanly attire and lust for sound. Worcester was the lucky/unlucky (cross out as applicable) home to Sparks Lights and Flames first recording. The lucky/unlucky man pressing and twiddling knobs on a big, big desk was Ray Tibbetts. He had the lucky/unlucky task of getting the groups first two songs onto a shiny disc for them to sell and showcase their first apocalypse. After those first two arduous months, Sparks were set for more work and less play in July when they entered their big yellow fan and set about storming around the country with Welsh wonders Dopamine. The group played through a set of very old material. Mostly covers of T- Rex, Motorhead and the Beach Boys. Or thats what they claimed, oh unfortunate bringers of false truths. In September the group went on a UD excavation of the country, yet again in the big yellow fan alongside some van containing another bunch of crazed satanic Welshmen, When Reason Sleeps. They had fun. By this time the males had been speaking with a few record labels, one of which Big Scary Monsters, featured a very attractive leader in Douch, as well as his obviously charming charismatic approach the man was honest and passionate, something that is sadly not found often enough. They agreed to start a loving relationship together and sparks Lights and Flames had to condemn the world to yet more madness as they went to visit Penarth, (you guessed it) Wales, in order to lay down their debut EP. The man with the lucky/unlucky task of hearing and seeing the boys for a week was Nick Lyold. Also Rich and Echo were exposed to their ritualistic stupidity. Although stupidity was thick in the air, the group managed to be reasonable and proceed with recording the 7 pieces of luckyness/unluckyness. Although Nicks mind by this point had been shattered and he (with a little help from the group) composed the funeral theme tune which the record ends on. The result of that week in Penarth, ''Vegas Psalms, Casino Hymns'' is now available through stores nationwide and through www.bsmrocks.com. In support of that momentous occasion, Sparks Lights and Flames went on a stint of vile creativity with good friends and fellow BSM whores Secondsmile. Both bands played the length of the country for two weeks. Like previous tours they had both had they both had lots and lots of fun. If they didn't you may not be reading this now. So along came Christmas and we got slightly unhealthier, colder, but possibly happier, we all saw in the New Year and 2005 brought along the intention of making love with instruments again. In 2005 the group have played with a wider variety of bands which has filled all members with joy, examples; Jeniferever, 65 Days Of Static, Eden Maine and Three Movements. Incidentally, they toured with Colchester 7 piece Three Movements. They yet again had fun and learned never to eat fish and chips in cold cold dressing rooms in Maestag. Another lesson that tiny puny tiny town taught them was never to allow Marc to lock the keys to the van inside the van, thus enahancing the chances of the band friendship torn apart by bitter wars involving weapons you only see in videogames. The newsest freshest things in Sparks world; a video, a limited 2 song 7 inch recorded by Ben Phillips, a track on the BSM Sampler CD to be released in March, supported by a BSM tour featuring Sparks Lights and Flames, Kneehigh and Get Cape, Wear Cape Fly, another tour in May/July supporting Eden Maine, Twin Zero and a second EP around summertime, means you all have something to smile about.
