So once upon damn hot eve. in Tucson I stumbled into a radically diverse venue called the DPC. It was a life changing night. The American Deathtrip, F.U.C.T., and Malignus Youth were playing to the rowdiest fucking crowd I had ever seen! I was totally enthralled. It was violently positive and fueled by a buzzing audience with absolutely no intention of feeling unscathed the next day. "Fuck", I said "I found my people!" This was not just night club. There were all types of people taggers, punks, rude boys, stoners, b-boys, preps, jocks, ravers,... You name it, they were there. After a couple of months of strictly punk shows I began to check out other events. Warsaw, Eek A Mouse, Black Moon Graffiti, Neurosis, Hellios Creed, The Offspring, Green Day, Then Tingari, Fugazi, Bad Brains( who almost smoked as much weed as Eek A Mouse but not quite!), hell there were even rave parties! Quite a broad spectrum of talent. When the place finally closed down in '96, there was little left to do around Tucson. If you were under 18, you were screwed. Of course other venues tried to pick up the enormous amount of slack, but in my opinion the scene never recovered. Despite all of the great headlining talent, I feel it was the locals that held the under ground together. Spill Blanket, FUCT, Deathtrip, Malignus, Jasons Cat Died, Fuzz, The Fells, and Yellow Brick Roadkill. They were the reasons why that place was so special. But everyone that attended made that place one of a kind. Thanks to Steve Eye and Bruce Momich for giving all of us such great memories to hold on to.
