Gospel, the producer behind Schizo FX,
grew up playing the bass although his first musical experience, like many children, was piano lessons. "My piano teacher was a very nice and patient lady." says gospel. "She would let me pound on an old broken drum set she had when we had finished the lesson for the day. Everything was going great, right up until she died that is." After recovering from that early tragedy, Gospel picked up the bass and played in alt and indie bands thru high school and college, most notably Hermit Cookies and irl. After dropping out of college he pretty much gave up on making music and tried to work real jobs with little to no success.Around the time he got fired from his last job a friend showed him some of the new computer software for audio production. "The virtualization of the recording studio is amazing," says Gospel, I remember using a cassette tape Tascam 4 track back in the day and thinking it was the sh**t. Needless to say the quality and flexibility of Digital Audio Workstations is totally inspiring." Inspirational enough for him to put computer skills gained from his graphic arts background together with his musical ability and dive headfirst into digital audio production.
Gospel tried out a few genres finally setting on Drum and Bass which he got into in a round about way. "I remember hearing some of the old jungle from back in the day and the tune that really stood out for me was Speechless." Gospel explains. "I recognized the bass line from a song on the Twin Peaks soundtrack. I thought the music was really exotic and intriguing." Although he didn't get into rave culture right away, those sounds his his old girlfriend had introduced to him stayed with him. A few years later a good friend and Junglist, DJ @ease, made him some mix tapes which convinced him to go to a DnB event. "I got really lucky because Andy C DJ'd at the first event I ever went to. Needless to say I was baptized by fire and I have never looked back."
In closing Gospel states"I love making Drum and Bass because it has some elements that are very near and dear to my heart, huge beats, massive bass and the love of keyboards and pianos my old teacher instilled in me." We think she would be proud.Gospel is hard at work on Schizo FX's debut EP "the early warning signs"
