About Me
ABOUT DON XUAN:
Performer, singer, songwriter, lyricist, actor, and producer. This talented Puerto Rican/Spanish/Italian artist named Don Xuan, born Valentino Moralez just about does a lil of everything! Growing up in the tough California streets of L.A.s westside raised by his mother and never knowing his father, DX struggled to overcome the peer, gang, and other negative pressures of his obvious surroundings with a strong will and determination never to settle for any losses in his life.
Being around music his entire life and coming from a long list of family members that were either singers or musicians, DX remembers first developing a serious interest in music at the age of 14 when he started rapping, singing, writing songs and learning to play keyboards. DXs musical influences range from rap favorites like Dr. Dre, 2Pac, LL Cool J, and Snoop Dogg, to old school funk legends like Parliament, The Isley Brothers, and Earth, Wind & Fire.
After moving to Orange County in his early teens, DX had already acquired the respect and popularity amongst his peers as a well known street dancer, actor, & hip hop artist with appearences in several different movies, t.v. shows, & commercials. Leaving home around the age of 17 to make his mark in this world and claim his fame, he teamed up with a few long time friends and formed a vocal R&B group called New Breed. They began performing at all the local events, talent shows, and social gatherings, before making their way up to Northern California’s bay area to try and become a part of the growing sound and talent which was emerging from there at the time.
DX and his group continued to perform and attened musical events opening up for such artists as M.C. Hammer, Tony, Toni, Tone, En Vogue, Babyface, and Digital Underground. They soon caught the eye of A&R Rep. Vida Sparks who managed to get them an audition with Jheryl Busby at Mowtown Records. Quickly after they signed onto a 5 yr. recording contract with Motown and began working on their debut album entitled New Breed Swing. But unfortunetly the project was shelfed due to politics of the music industry and the group was later dropped from the label after a year of legal negotiations.
Within a year after being dropped from the label, the group finally called it quits and parted their ways. After that brief moment of stardom, DX was determined more than ever to continue on his quest and journey for finding success in the music industry. He would later go on to form Westside 3, a latino rap group and then the diverse R&B vocal groups Unison & Vibe, which achieved minimal success both here in the U.S. & in the U.K. But with 4 record deals that yielded no fruit under his belt, he finally decided to throw in the towel on the whole group thing in 2004. After taking a year off from music, DX worked off & on behind the scenes as a songwriter & producer, collaborating on a variety of different projects before finally deciding to emerge back onto the scene as a solo artist.
With over 10 years of experience & credits to his name, DX is no stranger to the music industry. Throughout the course of his career he has performed in front of sold out crowds of over 30,000 in attendance and has had the privlege of sharing the stage with some of music’s biggest Artists known to date such as: Mariah Carey, R Kelly, 2 Pac, NSYNC, Nelly, BSB, TLC, Usher, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Cypress Hill, BBD & Boyz II Men just to name a few.
Even through all the ups & downs, in’s & out’s, and broken promises that the music business sometimes brings, DX has somehow managed to stay strong minded while keeping a positive outlook on life and continuing to retain his faith in both himself and his spiritual beliefs, knowing that there is no such thing as an overnight success! Driven to stay a cut above the rest, DX has always had the distinct ability to overcome obstacles and is currently hard at work in the studio putting up the finishing touches on his much anticipated debut album entitled My Life. With a library of fresh material and some hot new tracks, DX is destined to be the next big thing to arrive on the music scene.
