I am here for Friends

About Me

I’m kind of nerdly about things like folklore, nature, art, and subway maps. I love to go on road trips and assail my fellow passengers with random historical tidbits (did you know Pancho Villa loved ice cream?) and weather info (look at that wall cloud!). Pigtails are my hairstyle of choice. I like to rock the Chuck T’s and cowboy boots. Two of my favorite people have guitars named after dogs – Geraldine (for Townes Van Zandt’s dog) and Brady (after a legendary bulldog). My cat prefers dog food. I’m a lip gloss junkie. Airports make me happier than any other place on earth. I swipe flight safety cards. Mariachi music makes me miss my mama and shiny objects distract me. One day I’ll learn to play the banjo. Taxidermy intrigues me. The road atlas is my favorite book of all time. That about covers it. Oh and these are a few of my favorite things...

A Cycle of Great Things

So last month was weird. No need to dredge up details, but I spent most of September feeling like I was sending mail to a dead letter office, stuck in the horse latitudes of 2007, it was this unfun mo...

Marfa Recap

Before we left for Marfa, I was thumbing through an old copy I have of Frank Dobie's book, "An Informal History of Texas." Dobie paraphrases Dr. Prescott Webb, a Texas historian, on the Big Bend area....

Marfa Mix CD Challenge

I'm sick of my own CDs. I'm in the mood for a sonic change of scenery, especially since I'm going to have company in the car next week and during my last road trip I found out my sidekick wasn't too ...

Cannot wait

I get in weird repetitive album listening phases where I'll listen to the same thing for 24 hours on end. This year I've done it with Centromatic and the Dandy Warhols, but nothing rivals the number o...

Not any words for this.

I didn't know Carter, but feel like every 3rd person I know is a friend of his. I hate the loss it represents to our music community, I hate the fact that I have so many friends who are gut wrenchingl...

Tate Tracks - Kounellis

One of my favorite works in the history of ever is at The Tate Modern, Jannis Kounellis' simple charcoal drawing of a city under two stuffed birds hit by arrows next to women's head full of landscape ...
