About Me

Saxophonist and clarinetist. Free improvisation and free jazz. I am mainly interested in free jazz and free improvisation but still believe that any music can move me and fascinate me.

Although I can..t remember a moment in my life where there was no music, I decided to study it in an academic way when I was already in a age of thinking "seriously", something which I always found quite hard. I then studied harmony, knew what counterpoint is, who John Cage was, played rhythm changes untill I found out how to do it right and then not to do it any more.
I started playing improvised music in Madrid with the ensemble "Soplathat", which I co-founded, at the same time as I was playing with latin bands like "La Moderna", in spanish popular music orchestras like "Vallecas Big Band" and other ad hoc ensembles.Member of "Musicalibre", Spanish Association of Improvise Music, where I am part of the organization board.
I am member of orquesta FOCO, with whom I have played during the last 9 years and participated in several editions of the international festival Hurta Cordel.
Since in England I played with the quintet "Needs Must" (Leeds) which I co-founded together with drummer Neil Thomas and bass James Paylor. I also played in LCM ( Leeds College of Music) Duke Ellington orchestra under Tony Faulkner, the LCM Latin Big Band under Omar Puentes's conduction and collaborated with LIMA ORCHESTRA(Leeds Improvised Music Association), conducted by Dave Kane.
Since 2005 I live in London where I keep myself as active as possible in the london improvisation scene playing regulary with the quartet: Javier Carmona, Marcio Matos, Ian Smith, Ricardo Tejero. I have collaborated with other musicians like Dave Tucker, Veryan Weston, Roland Ramanan, Dominic Lash, Steve Noble, Adrian Northover, Alison Blunt, Frank Charlton, Mark Sanders, Yedo Gibson, Nick Stevens, Joel Bell, Sarah Robins, Olivier Leaman, Tom Lawrence or Andrew Melville.
Recently I launched the cd PROGRESSIONS with the " Ensemble Progresivo" (Carmona,Matos,Northover,Blunt,Tejero)
