About Me

Layout Created at KillerKiwi.net
"As It Is" was born in March of 1998 when singer Chris Wall, and drummer, alex Hamilton set out to start a new band after their previous band, Zen Bender, fell apart. They put an add in "The Village Voice" which was answered by guitarist Trace Allen, and Bassist Jamie Osterhout who were already playing together in a cover-band named "The Melon Brothers" up in Binghamton, NY."As It Is" was off to a quick start. On the first meeting there was instant chemistry, on the second meeting they wrote their first song together. By summertime they had already recorded a demo and were gigging both in NYC and up in Binghamton. By the fall they had enough tunes for a debut CD. That winter, shortly after the completion of their website, they were contacted by an independent record label out of Toronto Canada who wanted to sign them after seeing the website and checking out some of the tunes. By the spring the band had signed a deal and were off to Toronto to record their Debut CD. Tragically, the deal they signed turned out to be a nightmare, and it became the beginning of the end for As It Is. After recording with the label, attending the photo sessions, and doing promotional gigs, it became more and more clear that something was wrong. There was a delay in mastering the CD, the release date was pushed back several times. The short story is that that unbeknownst to the band at the time, the label had lost it's distribution, which made the conrtact null and void. When all the ugly truth came to light and the dust settled, the utter corruption of this label bacame clear and it extended way beyond anything they had expected. The band saw no choice but to quickly to distance themselves from any connection with this label. The dissappointment that set in shortly there after took a deep toll on the and. The album was never mastered, and was never released, and the band was not in possession of the masters. Tragically enough, what remains today is 11 great songs recorded by a great band with an unmatched sound and chemistry who collapsed under the weight of dissappointment and frustration. They know what they had, they know they were ahead of their time, but the unfinished recording are all that remain for now.Even unfinished, the tracks speak for themselves and are available here and all over the web. As It Is has toyed with the idea of re-recording those 11 songs in addition to a few that were in the works at the time they disbanded. We'll have to wait and see what happens.
