How stupid does David Stein feel?Very early in the 70-minute main commencement ceremony at Alumni Memorial Park, a small plane appeared overhead, dragging a banner like the ones that pass overhead every 10 minutes on summer days at the Jersey Shore. Instead of an ad for Coppertone, the Atlantic City casinos or an all-you-can-eat seafood joint on the boardwalk, this banner read, "Congratulations David Stein -- Love, The Family."Ostentatious? Over the top? Of course ... but charming enough on the plane's first pass over the heads of the 8,000 graduates and their loan officers. I imagine Stein, a communications major with a minor in business, was embarrassed but thrilled.Unfortunately, the plane wasn't content with one annoying loop over the University of Southern California campus. Like yellow jackets at a barbecue, like Canadian thistle, like Newt Gingrich, the plane refused to go away. It circled overhead for more than 20 minutes, well into Ted Koppel's commencement address.Attention, David Stein: That internship at the Discovery Channel?
