I was born Dino Paul Crocetti on June 7 1917. As im sure you are all aware i died on December 25 1995. How have I managed to create a page if im no longer with the living. Well the answer is simple. A big big fan of mine has taken the time and energy needed to create a page worthy of one of the biggest stars of the 50's and 60's. Even to this day my music lives on.
Anyway lets tell you more about me shall I.
I was born in Steubenville, Ohio in the Pittsburgh Tri-State region, my parents Gaetano Crocetti, a barber from Abruzzo, Italy, and Angela Barra, an Italian American from Fernwood, Ohio. I spoke Italian only until the age of Five, and by the tenth grade in school, I decided it wasn't for me. I started out after school delivering Bootleg Liquer, served as a Speakeasy Croupier, wrote Crafty Anecdotes and became a Blackjack Dealer.
At the age of Fifteen I bacame a Boxer calling myself, Kid Crocett (Kro-Shey). During my Boxing years I won very few fights. Infact only One of the Twelve fights did I win. I suffered many broken knucles as a result of my boxing years due to the lack of money needed to afford the tape to wrap my hands in. I enjoyed it all the same though I must add.
It was due to my friends really that I became the person you all know me to be. They would push me and push me to go on stage and sing.
I started singing with local bands calling myself "Dino Martini," and got my first big break working for the "Ernie McKay Orchestra." In the early Forties I started singing with bandleader Sammy Watkins, at which time Sammy suggested I change my name to Dean Martin.I had a very good career in Films as well as on stage or singing.
