Born 1984 in the southern Philippines, but raised in a barrio in the province of Negros Oriental before emigrating to the west coast, Red was trained in classical piano since the age of 4. Using original melodies, he started composing beats when he was 16 while attending the same high school Nelly Furtado graduated from. Lacing his instrumentals with synthesizers and orchestra, his music developed a dark and aggressive style which he had plotted since childhood. Having manufactured hundreds of sample-free beats over the years, Red Manila finally adopted sampling in some of his latest works but never abandoning original composition. To date, he has produced for various rappers along the west coast, from Vancouver to California. The name Red Manila is used to represent his pure Filipino background. It contains his nickname Redman, and is a reference to the red Manila jerseys made by FUBU Philippines which he perceives to be a symbol of the Philippines being the first foreign country to develop a hip-hop culture. Red is his real first name.
